This post is about enhancing your VLC player to automatically download and add the subtitle from internet to the movie which you’re watching without you actually searching for subtitles in internet.

The extension name is Subtitle Finder actually developed by alessandro , This script crawls the Open subtitles website for subtitles with the name of the movie you’re watching and displays list of available subtitles in different languages from open subtitles. So that you can add subtitles to your movie without searching for it on the internet. This is one of the most downloaded addon from addons.videolan.org website. To add features to this script thepanz website author tweaked this subtitle finder not only to add it to the player but also to use it offline by downloading it to the current folder where the movie is located.

All you have to install this extension is

Download the extension from this linkĀ  and extract the sub-titles-finder.lua and paste in the following folder

Windows(32 bit): %ProgramFiles%/VideoLAN/VLC/lua/extensions/
Windows(64 bit) : %ProgramFiles(x86)%/VideoLAN/VLC/lua/extensions/
Linux (all users): /usr/share/vlc/lua/extensions/
Linux (current user): ~/.local/share/vlc/lua/extensions/
Mac OS X (all users): /Applications/VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/share/lua/extensions/

Now you can see a menu in VIEW menu with name subtitles finder . Just search for a subtitle and load it , that will automatically download the subtitle to the current folder of the video.
