Description Recovers files from disks with physical damage. Allows you to copy files from disks with problems such as bad sectors, scratches or that just give errors when reading data. The program will attempt to recover every readable piece of a file and put the pieces together. Using this method most types of files can be made useable even if some parts of the file were not recoverable in the end.

How this data recovery tools work ?

This subject is always seems to be easy but very complex when gone in depths. When you actually delete a file from your system first place it would go is recycle bin or trash. But unfortunately if you used shift + delete or virus damaged your pc then comes data recovery tools into picture. A file system comprises of directory’s say folders and files to understand this better have a look at my previous post on filesystem here. The operating system will have tree of structure or say if you can understand programming it stores pointer of pointers for every folder or file location at beginning of the drive and is used by operating system to create tree structure. Now what happens when you delete a file in the background is little different than what you expect your system could do. System only deletes the logical path of the file that means only pointer at beginning of drive which makes the file invisible to operating system but physical path still exist in the hard drive. But what happens there after deleting a file is that operating system will assume that deleted location is available to use and can use that space for storing another file. Previous file will be remained for many years or it may be gone in very next hour which depends on where the new data received is stored in your filesystem . It is hard to recover your deleted data but it is not impossible unless physical space in drive is overwritten by some other file.

One way to visualize this situation is , A book representing your file. When you decide that you need that book no longer then you press delete and ask recycling company to recycle that book to reuse to write for some other data . Here system is your recycling company . When you delete a book that means you throw it in dust bin but recycling company didn’t picked that book yet to reuse but when you delete even from your recycle bin then book will be picked by recycling company but book is not recycled yet , but when you approach recycle company that you need a book to write again then recycle company gives you a new book to write by recycling some of your previous books or may give a new book that it has in its shelf , this is where when you really lose your data. Recovery tools approach recycling company for getting back your books that you asked recycling company to recycle but by the time your recovery tools approach recycle company may tore some of your pages in it so possibility for recovering entire data will reduce .

Any software recovery tool works in two phases to recover your data , First phase is diagnosis phase where your disk is scanned to understand the disk sectors and structure of your file system. Since the pointer to the physical file is deleted at beginning , it is recovery tool task to analyze entire filesystem but it takes more time. If you are specifically looking for a file then it scans disk for that particular file saving some time but again its not that easy job. A good software tool is that it provides a preview of file and its chance of recovery.

NOTE : There are many other softwares in internet but check before using them these are the list that I can trust and they are all for free.
